Flying to Sri Lanka from the UK

If you’re flying to Sri Lanka, here’s everything you’ll need to know, such as average flight times and the entry requirements.

Flight Times

Direct flights to Colombo are available from London Heathrow, and seasonally from Gatwick too, with a direct flight generally taking just under eleven hours.

However, if you’re flying from elsewhere in the UK, such as Manchester or Edinburgh, you’ll have to catch an indirect flight, which will take around 13-14 hours, or possibly longer depending on the route.

Entry Requirements

All UK citizens travelling to Sri Lanka will require a visa, and short stay visas can be obtained from the Electronic Travel Authority.

Tourist visas usually last around 30 days, and while they can usually be obtained on arrival, it’s recommended to get one before you leave.

If you do arrive without a visa, you can expect a lengthy wait to get one, or could end up with a fine or even deportation or detention.
