What to See in Melbourne

Melbourne is the kind of city you can explore in a couple of days, or a couple of weeks depending on how much you want to see. You can see most of the main sites over a long weekend. One of the best ways to see the city is on one of Melbourne’s famous trams. It’s a refreshing, authentic way to take in the city. Amongst the skyscrapers and busy streets you will find some quiet spots around the city, such as the Royal Botanic Gardens and Fitzroy Gardens.

Key city sights that you should see include the Royal Exhibition Building, St Patrick’s Cathedral and the State Library of Victoria. Don’t miss the chance to visit fictional ‘Ramsay Street’ where Neighbours was filmed. You can go on tours here to see the set and learn about the programme.

Melbourne has some fantastic attractions for kids. They will enjoy seeing the aquatic animals at Melbourne Aquarium and seeing 320 different animals at Melbourne Zoo. If you want to see the best views in the city then head to Eureka Sky deck 88 where you can admire the city from the observation deck, it’s the highest public viewpoint in the Southern Hemisphere.

Other popular places to see include Finders Street Station, a huge station that was built in the 19th century and still retains most of its authentic charm. There’s also the iconic Yarra River where you can board a river craft and enjoy some relaxation on the water.
