Located on the Gulf of Thailand, and little over 100 miles from Bangkok, Hua Hin is a lively resort with a charming appeal. This district ditches the stereotyped image of Thailand as a sparsely populated island paradise. Of course, you can find this in Thailand, but that’s not all you can experience.

Hua Hin is often thought of as more of a Thai resort than a tourist resort, having originally been used as a holiday destination for those a few hours north in Bangkok.

This gives the district a quiet authenticity, offering an insight into Thai life, away from the crowds of tourists you’re more likely to find in other places like Bangkok and Phuket.

For a real taste of Hua Hin, head to the markets such as Plearnwan or Cicada market where you can find local vendors selling everything from art and clothing, to delicious street food.

After a day of browsing the local markets, you can take in a little culture by visiting the impressive Buddhist temple, Wat Huay Mongkol where you’ll find the huge statue of the Thai monk, Luang Por Thuad. If you would prefer to see some natural beauty, there are plenty of places to visit, from the Pa La-U Waterfall to the Pran Buri Forest Park.

When to Go

With a tropical climate, Hua Hin offers consistent heat throughout the year, with termperatures usually sitting in the high 20s and low 30s. During the hotter months, from April to September, the mercury can rise into the mid 30s.

During the rainy season, particularly heavy rains can fall for days on end with some months featuring more rainy days than dry days. This usually starts in May and lasts until the end of October, but can often carry on into November.

If you visit between December and March, you’ll get to experience the warm climate of Thailand before the temperatures rise even further. You should also avoid the rainy season when you visit at this time of year, ensuring you get the best conditions with dry and warm weather.
