With its Art Deco architecture, Miami is instantly recognisable, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US, with great beaches and nightlife, and plenty to see and do.

The perfect mix of a city and beach break, Miami packs all of the glamour of Miami Vice, with a Latin edge, due to the large Cuban population.

You’ll see this influence most clearly in Little Havana, where the streets are lined with cafés, restaurants and cigar shops.

Ocean Drive is where you’ll see some of Miami’s most famous Art Deco buildings, and for a night out, there’s no better place to start than the lively South Beach.

For a more relaxing day out, head to the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, 2.6 acres of scenic gardens, with its own weekly farmer’s market.

And of course, you can’t talk about Miami without mentioning the beaches, with their perfect white sands and blue waters.

In terms of weather, Miami is warm right throughout the year, with an average winter temperature of about 20°C and 30°C in summer.

May to October is the warmest time to visit, although it’s also very humid, and likely to see a bit of rain too.

Thomas Cook is the only airline currently offering non-stop flights from Manchester to Miami, with flights taking roughly nine and a half hours.

There are also numerous airlines offering indirect flights, such as Qatar, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa and Delta, with stops in locations such as Heathrow, Frankfurt and New York JFK.

Of course, these flights will take longer but could prove to be much better value.

Miami International airport is located about eight miles west of downtown Miami and there are taxis, buses, trains and car hire all available for your onward journey.

Remember that while you won’t need a visa to visit Miami, you will need to fill out an ESTA form before your departure to allow you to stay there for up to 90 days.
