New Zealand is a truly stunning country to visit, and what better place to start your journey than in its largest city, Auckland?

Situated on New Zealand’s North Island, Auckland is also the world’s largest Polynesian city and while in some ways it’s not dissimilar to your typical cosmopolitan European city, it also has a strong culture of its own.

The mix of Polynesian and Kiwi locals, foreign travellers and a large Asian population give Auckland a really multicultural and laidback feel, and you’ll feel at home straight away!

The main highlights of Auckland include the Auckland Sky Tower, which is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere and offers breath taking views over the city and its impressive waterfront, as well as the surrounding area.

If you’re feeling brave you can also choose to take the ‘Skyjump’, a 192 metre plunge from the top of the tower at 85km an hour!

Also be sure to check out the Auckland Harbour Bridge, which is similar to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and spans 1,020 metres across Waitemata Harbour.

New Zealand is also an adrenaline junkie’s paradise, with various activities such as skiing, skydiving, bungee jumping and water sports right on your doorstep.

And once you’re all tired out, you can relax in one of the many bars and cafés on the city’s waterfront.

You can also choose to hire out your own yacht and explore the bay for yourself!

If you’re willing to travel a little way out of the city, you’ll also find a great selection of beaches, whether for relaxing or perhaps surfing.

Mission bay and Rangitoto are particularly popular beaches, but there is a total of 28 in the Auckland area to explore.

Other attractions include the famous One Tree Hill (although the actual tree itself has actually been taken down!), the Eden garden, and the Auckland Art Gallery and Voyager Maritime museum for a bit of history and culture.
