Hong Kong is a city where east meets west, and old traditions meet forward-thinking modernity.

Whether you want to experience the more spiritual side of the city and explore the temples and cultural sights out in the mountains or feel the hustle and bustle of the city centre and its night markets, there are plenty of reasons to book flights from London to Hong Kong today.

First things first, one of the best ways to see Hong Kong is to hop on the Peak Tram which will take you all the way up to Victoria Peak, which offers spectacular views of the skyline.

You can also check out Hong Kong’s very own Walk of Fame, the Avenue of Stars, which celebrates the Chinese film industry, or board the Star Ferry which offers tours of the iconic Victoria Harbour.

For a more spiritual visit, visit Lantau Island, where you’ll find the famous Big Buddha statue nestled amongst the majestic mountains.

A couple of things you’ll probably want to remember about Hong Kong if you plan to visit are that the local currency is the Hong Kong dollar, and the time difference is eight hours ahead of London.

In terms of weather, Hong Kong is a lot warmer than London, with average summer temperatures of 29°C and a much more pleasant average of 16°C in the winter.

A number of airlines such as British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Virgin Atlantic all fly from London to Hong Kong, with direct flights available from London Heathrow, and non-direct options from London Gatwick.

The average flight time from London to Hong Kong when flying direct is 11 hours 30 minutes and you’ll arrive into Terminal 1 at Hong Kong International Airport.

The quickest and cheapest way into the city centre will be aboard the Airport Express train, which costs $100 (around £10) for a ticket, or you can get a taxi from the nearby rank, which will cost about $250-350 (£22-£32).

Remember that while you can stay in Hong Kong for up to six months without a visa, you will need to apply for one if you’re planning on staying longer.
